Srey Mao

“My name is Srey Mao, and in my country it is hard to find a good job after graduating. Thanks to Children of the Mekong, I learned that I had to adapt to my environment, I learned to take initiative and to communicate and to be honest, which is not common among Cambodia’s graduates. I have been working in a big phone company in Phnom Penh for four years, and I am now in charge of all of the agents on a national scale. The achievement I am most proud of is to have been able to establish a social project in my company that sponsors underprivileged children in the Kratie province. I would like to give a chance to young people like the one Children of the Mekong gave to me ten years ago. I promised myself I would make a commitment to help others when I graduated; to have a role in my country’s development is my priority. Children of the Mekong taught me what real love is, you changed my life, and you freed me.”

CA-CIB’S FINANCIAL SUPPORT AND SKILLS-TRANSFER PROGRAMME

“Because we have offices in Asia, we can send our employees to the field to train University students in the centres managed by the charity. We have supported a cohort of students from Phnom Penh over the last four years, on a twice-yearly basis, with a team of 6 volunteer employees. The content and delivery of these training courses are built around themes useful in the professional world, such as “project management”, “teamwork”, “acquiring communication skills” or “job interviews”.

Three of our employees attended their graduation ceremony in November 2018, and the adventure started again in 2019 with a new cohort in Cebu, the Philippines.

Other forms of support are also taking place in the UK, where we offer Children of the Mekong’s outstanding students a London based scholarship […] and in Paris, a community of mentors has been formed among our employees, creating moral support and a strong bond with these young people over the years.”

Tien Tran Phan, Head of Image and Brand Credit Agricole CIB.

We are convinced that education provides access to a better future, and that’s why Credit Agricole CIB has been supporting Children of the Mekong since 2014.

PHILANTHROPY AND GRANTS

“ When I’ve first met with Eugenie Munakarmi, the COO of Children of the Mekong UK, she introduced me to the charity. She was so passionate about making a difference helping children go to school. Her dedication inspired me to make a difference myself. I wanted to contribute to make this world a better place too so I sponsored a child. Many years later when  I started my recruitment company, I immediately wanted to give back to communities. It was then a matter of course for me to support Children of the Mekong. Education is a major step for anybody to get the career of their choice.  I am so pleased that Pearl and Partner will sponsor the education of children in Southeast Asia. We hope to sponsor as many children as we possibly can! Who knows we might even help them get their dream  job in the future!”
