All the funds raised on the occasion of this event will support the construction of a new preschool for the children of Go Muong, in Vietnam.
The Context
Since 2006, the sisters of Go Muong have been providing an educational service open to all poor families, regardless of their religion, thanks to a nursery school inaugurated in 2007. The parish of Go Muong, founded in 1750 and attached to the diocese of Nha Trang, is a historic site rebuilt in 1901 after being destroyed shortly after its creation. It has a congregation of around 1,700 in a commune with a variety of beliefs. However, their house, located near the rice fields, is in an advanced state of deterioration, endangering the safety of the children and the sisters, especially during the rainy season, and the gates need to be reinforced to prevent them from collapsing.
An Urgent Need
The parish of Go Muong faces several major challenges. Many children from disadvantaged families do not have access to pre-school education, as the cost of public schools is beyond the reach of their parents. Families rely on the support of the Sisters to make schooling accessible. Children who are already at school need extra support in the form of educational and recreational activities to stimulate their learning. The most urgent need concerns the Sisters’ house, which is in an advanced state of disrepair, endangering the safety of the children and the nuns. This situation will make it impossible to welcome children from March 2025.
The Proposed Solution
To meet these needs, the Sisters of the Congregation of the Immaculate Heart of Mary have drawn up a project to rebuild the house. The aim is to provide a safe and suitable environment for the children and the nuns’ activities. The work, scheduled to start in March 2025, will enable the children to be welcomed back in September 2025. During this period, two rooms will be made available by the parish to ensure educational continuity. The aim of this project is to improve the living and learning conditions of disadvantaged children while strengthening the educational mission of the Sisters.
The Key Points of the Project
- Prevent children from dropping out of school by preparing them from an early age for entry into Year 2.
- To improve living and learning conditions for 45 children and teaching staff.
- This project complements Children of the Mekong’s current work in this rural community.
By funding this project, you are helping 45 children to go to nursery school.
