SUPPORT THE VICTIMS OF THE EARTHQUAKE

On the night of 30 September 2025, a violent earthquake measuring 6.9 on the Richter scale struck the Visayas archipelago, with its epicentre located off the coast of the city of Bogo, in the province of Cebu (Philippines).

Rescue workers and local authorities report the following preliminary figures:

  • At least 69 people killed and more than 150 injured, with victims still trapped under the rubble.
  • Numerous public and private buildings collapsed or severely damaged: roads, bridges, old churches, sports centres, etc.
  • The Bogo hospital is overwhelmed by the influx of injured people.
  • Water, electricity and communication networks are severely disrupted in several municipalities.
  • More than 600 aftershocks were recorded in the hours following the earthquake, making rescue operations even more dangerous and complex.
  • The towns of San Remigio, Medellin and other municipalities around Bogo are among the worst affected.

Given the scale of the disaster, the authorities have declared a state of calamity to speed up the emergency response.

A TARGETED AND RELIABLE RESPONSE

Although Children of the Mekong is not an NGO specialising in humanitarian emergencies, we are committed to responding to specific requests from our local managers. Our aid will focus on:

  • Access to water, food and electricity for the most affected families.
  • The urgent securing of living spaces (schools, homes, etc.): It is crucial to quickly rebuild perimeter walls and ensure the safety of children and teachers.
  • The reconstruction and consolidation of school buildings and shelters for children and students.
