The Sisophon school centre was established in 1993 in response to the insecurity affecting villages in the region. At the time, a situation of ongoing conflict and banditry was causing large movements of people towards the city of Sisophon, including many orphaned children, children who were victims of landmines or abuse, and children left to fend for themselves.
The centre includes seven homes and a school centre. It provides 286 children with a safe haven and a family structure, creating an environment that supports both education and personal development.
The aim of the centre is to help children who have the intellectual ability and the desire to study to broaden their knowledge by offering a wide range of high-quality supplementary classes, including mathematics, Khmer, physics, chemistry, biology and foreign languages. These classes are open to all, both Children of the
Mekong sponsored children and children from outside the
programme.
Childhood and adolescence shape our lives. Let us help these children grow up with dignity. Thank you on their behalf!
The Sisophon Centre supports 286 children from very poor families by providing them with a safe, family-like environment, as well as educational and personal support to help them build their future.
From the bottom of our hearts, thank you for your generosity!
Enable motivated students from very poor families to continue their education, access higher education, and receive guidance for their future career choices and entry into working life.
Provide sponsored children with a stable living environment and supportive study conditions, enabling them to study in the best possible circumstances, gain their qualifications and move confidently into the world of work.
Beyond their academic education, offer students a well-rounded human formation, helping them grow intellectually, emotionally and morally, with the aim of achieving human excellence.
The supplementary classes offered at the Sisophon Centre are designed to address the shortcomings of public schools in Cambodia. Since 2024, international teachers affiliated with Children of the Mekong have been providing additional classes for students, working in collaboration with public school teachers.
The aim is to offer more personalised support and better guidance for each child. This approach helps each child progress at their own pace and build confidence in their learning.

Supporting sponsored children and guiding them towards their future by providing not only educational knowledge, but also activities and strong values.
Solutions to be implemented: Helping sponsored children to better understand themselves and explore the different study paths available within the Cambodian education system. The aim is to guide them towards options that genuinely match their wishes and deeper aspirations.
Continuing the renovation of the Centre and maintaining the infrastructure to keep the premises clean and safe.
Solutions to be implemented: Putting up signs to encourage young people to take care of the environment in which they live and study. Renovation work is also planned for the homes and classrooms.
