The Sisophon school centre was founded in 1993 as a result of the insecurity affecting villages in the region: a state of latent war and banditry was causing large population movements towards the town of Sisophon, including many orphaned children, victims of landmines or abuse, who were left to fend for themselves.
The Centre comprises seven homes and a school. It offers 286 children a safe haven and a family structure conducive to education and personal development.
The Centre’s objective is to enable children who have intellectual abilities and the desire to study to increase their knowledge by offering them a range of high-quality supplementary courses: mathematics, Khmer, physics, chemistry, biology, foreign languages, etc. These courses are open to all, both Children of the Mekong sponsored children and children from outside.
Childhood and adolescence shape our lives. Let us help these children grow up with dignity. Thank you on their behalf!
The supplementary classes offered at the Sisophon centre aim to compensate for the shortcomings of public schools in Cambodia.
Solutions to be implemented: Since 2024, international teachers affiliated with Children of the Mekong have been offering additional classes to pupils, working in collaboration with public school teachers. The aim is to provide personalised support and better guidance.

Supporting sponsored children and guiding them towards their future, not only by imparting educational knowledge, but also by offering them activities and instilling strong values.
Solutions to be implemented: Help pupils get to know themselves better and explore the various training opportunities available in the Cambodian education system. The aim is to guide them towards paths that truly correspond to their deepest desires and aspirations.
Continue renovating the Centre and maintaining the infrastructure to keep the premises clean and safe.
Solutions to be implemented: put up signs to encourage young people to take care of the environment in which they live. Renovation of the common rooms and classrooms is planned.
