How much does it cost to sponsor a child

The cost of sponsorship

Sponsoring a child costs £28 in the UK, USD35 in the USA, SGD50 in Singapore or HKD260 in Hong Kong per month. Your monthly donation can be paid by monthly card debit or Standing order, depending on the country you are paying from.

Children of the Mekong does not differentiate the amount of sponsorship according to the country of the sponsored child. So, whever you sponsor a child in Thailand, The Philippines or Myanmar, your monthly sponsorship donation is the same.

At Children of the Mekong, child sponsorship support is personalised. It means that when you sponsor a child, your financial support goes directly to your child. It’s not shared within a general project for the whole community.

Children at school

How is the money from my sponsorship used?

The sponsorship allows a child to go to school. It is the moral ‘contract’ that we make with the children and young people we support. And we support them for the entire duration of their studies.

How is used your sponsorship moneyHowever, Children of the Mekong adapts the use of this sponsorship to the realities on the ground. Depending on the needs, the money from your sponsorship can be used to buy school equipment (uniform, school bag, books), to take the bus or buy a bicycle, to pay for boarding for pupils who live too far from school, to pay for tutoring or remedial classes. Part of the sponsorship is also set aside to enable your sponsored child to pursue higher education if they wish, or to enable their parents to compensate for the fact that their child no longer works. At the beginning of your sponsorship, you will receive a Welcome Packk explaining precisely how the sponsorship money is used.

Sponsor a university student

If your sponsored child has the desire and the ability to pursue higher education, Children of the Mekong is committed to helping and encouraging them along this path. Higher education often costs much more than college or high school, as new expenses are added to the cost of tuition: renting a boarding house, taking additional courses, or purchasing a computer is sometimes necessary.

When the situation justifies it, we offer sponsors the opportunity to help their sponsored child through a student sponsorship, to the amount of £43 per month.
