WHAT IS SPONSORSHIP?

Sponsoring a child means opening the doors to education.

It means giving your sponsored child the possibility to go to school, to eat, and to dress properly. Thanks to you, the children will be able to strive towards a more promising and secure future. You will thus follow their progress throughout their schooling and create a real bond.

So do not hesitate any longer and get started!

WHAT IS HUMANITARIAN AID?

In the true sense of the word, “humanitarian work” means providing aid, often on an emergency basis, in response to a crisis situation.

A distinction is generally made between two forms of aid: emergency aid, which consists of responding immediately to the basic needs of populations affected by an exceptional situation. Development aid, which is a longer-term approach. Its objective is to provide sustainable solutions to vulnerable populations to enable long-term development.

WHY IS CHILDREN OF THE MEKONG DIFFERENT FROM OTHER CHARITIES?

It is thought that humanitarian aid remains a purely Western practice from the countries of the North aimed at the countries of the South. It is often considered as a one-way aid, obeying a form of assistance disconnected from realities. Humanitarian action is often assigned to the cause of large NGOs, whose structural expenses are large in scale.

Children of the Mekong follows a distinct approach. Firstly, as opposed to providing one-time aid without any follow-up support, we provide sustainable responses to long-term needs. Sponsorship is the most convincing example: by sponsoring a child, you accompany your sponsored child throughout their schooling. We are convinced that access to education remains one of the main keys to development.

Furthermore, rather than a one-way support, Children of the Mekong is committed to a real dialogue. Thanks to the sponsorship system, you can communicate with your sponsored child by email. What is more, you can strengthen the bond by going directly to meet them.

Finally, the project “Act for your Dream” allows children in the UK to understand the importance of school and to learn to be involved: it is thus a real reciprocal exchange between our young people in UK and in Southeast Asia.

WHAT DO WE OFFER?

We offer different types of international sponsorship:

You can choose to sponsor a child or sponsor a group of children.

We operate in 6 countries in Southeast Asia: The Philippines, Laos, Cambodia, Thailand, Vietnam and Myanmar. Each country has its own specific challenges (for example, the slums in the Philippines, the civil war in Myanmar, rural poverty in Cambodia, ethnic minorities in Vietnam and Thailand, etc). We therefore offer various sponsorship programmes.
