Travelling with purpose: Helping better by travelling smarter! 

Most sponsors continue supporting their sponsored child until they complete their education. Some even choose to sponsor more than one child. Sponsorship is a long-term commitment. 

If you ever face difficulties, just get in touch. We will find a way for you to stay connected with your sponsored child. 

If you need to end your sponsorship for personal reasons, simply let us know by email or phone. We will continue to support your sponsored child’s education. 

Our local volunteers devote great care to preparing this meeting. Your sponsored child and their family so look forward to meeting you! The importance of this encounter often leads family members to take time away from work so they can welcome you properly. 

For this reason, the visit is limited to half a day. This allows time to talk and connect despite the language barrier, and to discover your sponsored child’s surroundings, their village and sometimes their school. You may share a simple activity together, like playing football or volleyball, show photographs of your daily life, or bring a small gift. 

Our team is available to guide you and offer advice, helping to make this encounter one of the most meaningful moments of your journey. 

When you fill out your sponsorship form, you can indicate your preferences for your sponsored child’s age and country. Make sure to let us know if you would like to meet them, as some areas can be difficult to reach or off-limits to visitors, such as refugee camps, conflict zones, or remote villages during the rainy season. 

Children of the Mekong operates in Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Laos, Myanmar, and, more recently, East Timor. 

Sponsoring a child costs GBP 32 in the UK, USD 45 in the USA, SGD 55 in Singapore or HKD 320 in Hong Kong per month. Your monthly donation can be paid by monthly card debit or Standing order, depending on the country you are paying from.

Your sponsorship helps to cover your sponsored child’s school fees, supplies, transport, uniforms, and more. How the funds are used may change to meet each child’s specific needs, but the goal is always the same: giving a child the opportunity to go to school and open the door to a brighter future! 

To be honest, short-term voluntourism trips do not really help local communities. In fact, they can sometimes cause more harm than good. Sending untrained volunteers on very short assignments with no supervision makes it almost impossible to do meaningful work. In addition, much of the money paid rarely reaches local communities or benefits them, even when it is a large sum.

Keep in mind that you are not on a “mission”. This visit is about meeting your sponsored child and experiencing your journey in a more meaningful way. It becomes a moment set apart, one that adds depth to your trip. 

You will not be asked to repaint a classroom or to give lessons. Instead, the focus is on the encounter itself, taking time to talk, to listen, and to connect. 

The purpose is simple. To show your sponsored child, who comes from a modest background, that they matter. That they can succeed. That education remains possible, whatever their circumstances. 

As some sponsored children say, “If my sponsor has travelled halfway across the world to meet me, then I must be important.” 

Unlike a short-term mission, your sponsorship continues long after your trip has ended. Your support helps your sponsored child attend school, purchase school supplies, wear a uniform, and cover transport or additional classes. Through education and thanks to your commitment, this support can change the future of a child and their family. 

Of course! Whether you are retired, a student, a traveller, or someone who prefers to stay at home, you can always become a sponsor.  

Sponsorship is a unique way to make a difference and to share a journey, even from afar.  

There are no requirements, except the wish to help a child grow, learn, and build a better future for themselves and their family.
