In Southeast Asia, our local managers ensure that funds are used appropriately and check that your sponsored child is continuing their education. They work in partnership with overseas volunteers on assignments lasting 1 to 3 years, known as the ‘Bambous’, who act as the organisation’s eyes and ears.

All communication is handled safely and respectfully by our local teams, who help children write their letters and ensure that exchanges remain appropriate and secure. Children of the Mekong is an international sponsorship organisation that has been working since 1958 to provide schooling for the poorest children in South-East Asia. In Vietnam, Cambodia, the Philippines, Thailand, Laos, East Timor, and Myanmar, we carry out our work through school sponsorship. Our priorities are girls’ education, early childhood, slums, ethnic minorities, refugees and displaced people, and isolated communities and rural areas.
