It’s a wrap…

It’s time to pay farewell to Chinda and Sreylang

Sreylang and Chinda in London Scholarship Programme
Sreylang and Chinda in Credit Agricole – CIB office in London

Chinda and Sreylang, our two outstanding students from highly disadvantaged backgrounds, left London at the end of January 2020 to go back to Cambodia.

During these three months of the London scholarship, Chinda got a glimpse of the technology that a modern, wealthy city like London provides for the environment. She discovered environmental problems and solutions that are currently not studied in Cambodia and is more motivated than ever to expand her knowledge.

Sreylang had the chance to observe the work of employees in 2 prestigious London hotels. She has met people from all over the world and learned about the standard of management applied in high-class hotels.

On a personal side, this scholarship has also been an incredible human experience: everyone who met our students was moved by their story and learned about their life and culture.

Indeed, our students have had the opportunity to visit many London schools to share their stories and reflect on the difficulties of access to education in South East Asia. Their testimonies have enabled many students to realise how lucky they are to have gained access to a good education.

Now that Chinda and Sreylang are back in Cambodia, Sreylang wants to focus on finding a job and Chinda would like to explore the possibility of pursuing a master’s degree.

Both of them also want to share what they have seen and learned from London with all the other students at Children of the Mekong’s Center Merieux in Phnom Penh.

Hopefully, their testimonies will motivate hundreds of other students to continue their studies and encourage them to achieve their dreams!

We’re now looking for partners for the 2020 London Scholarship. If you would like to sponsor the program, please get in touch with our COO eugenie@childrenofthemekong.org.
