What is behind "Act for your Dreams" Project?
This project aims at helping young students in the West realise that school is a great opportunity to make their dreams come true.
The “Act for your dreams” project is a series of testimonials and success stories of disadvantaged Southeast Asian children and interactive sessions with students. It is a reminder of why our kids should appreciate the privilege of being able to access education as a means to achieve their dreams.
Why do we work with students? Turning Constraint into Fulfilment!
We believe that education is a key to fulfiling dreams; yet, many students see school as a constraint. Children of the Mekong’s goal is to shift their focus and help students realise that school provides them with vital experiences and a way to achieve their goals. For that, we use inspirational testimonials to confront them with courageous children living in slums and refugee camps who have managed to escape poverty and fulfilled their dreams thanks to education.

What we offer
FREE AND INTERACTIVE SESSIONS
- All sessions are carried out by trained volunteers.
- Contents are adapted to any level, in primary and secondary school (Key Stage 1 to Key Stage 5).
- The project is suitable for all schools – state schools, public schools, private schools and other educational institutions.
- The purpose of this project is to help students broaden their horizons through exposure to hurdles children in other parts of the world have to face.

“This project is a wonderful opportunity for a child living in the West to broaden their horizons, find new motivation in their studies, and discover the real meaning behind the word ‘solidarity’.”
After having volunteered to help poor people in Asia for one year, I decided to continue getting involved for one more year. I wanted to do it to help young people realise how lucky they are to have easy access to education, healthcare system, water or power! I think it is a good thing to tell them about children’s lives living half the world away and who are eager to learn. It might push them to take action in their daily lives.
“I realise how lucky I am to be able to go to school even though I don’t always feel like going. In other parts of the world, young people can only dream of attending school! This project taught me – and my family – about the life of a child in Asia, as I was touched by YNung’s story, and I wanted to talk to people around me about it. I think differently now, and I realise that I’ve been given a fantastic opportunity in life.”

What to expect:
1) Raise Awareness:

– Discussion – 20 minutes
– Design a Group Poster ‘The Wall of Gratitude’ – 20 minutes
3) Engage:
– Individual/Group Time for Reflection (optional) – 15 minutes
Aims:
1) Raise awareness of the key role of education using meaningful testimonials
2) Encourage students to get to know themselves better
3) Introduce students to the idea of common good and responsibilities
4) Work on a vocabulary pertaining to a specific subject (the right recipe to make a dream come true)
What to expect:
Preamble – Establish a Connection with the Students (optional) – 5 minutes
1) Raise Awareness:
– Presentation of the Organisation – 15 minutes
– Attending School is an Opportunity: A Testimonial of a Young Asian Student – 20 minutes
2) Collaborate:
– Discussion – 20 minutes
– Design a Group Poster, ‘The Recipe to Make my Dreams Come True’ 20 minutes

– Group Work on the Testimonial of a Young Person Sponsored by Children of the Mekong – 25 minutes
– Feedback- 20 minutes
– Design a Group Poster, ‘The Recipe to Make my Dreams Come True’ 30 minutes
– Individual Reflection Time (optional) – 15 minutes
3) Engage:
– Individual/Group Time for Reflection (optional) – 15 minutes
